The Garvock Out of School Club provides an excellent facility for children attending primary Schools in Dunfermline.  Based in Garvock Hill, we run our club from the Vine Conference Centre.

We are Registered to care for children School aged between 4 and 16 years. Within our multi-purpose hall and Break-out Room at the Vine Conference Centre, we have a vast array of resources that shall occupy children of all age groups within Primary Schooling.

Touch Primary School
Commercial Primary School
St. Margarets Primary School
Carnegie Primary School.
Other local schools may be considered.

The sports hall is split in half with a large sports curtain to give us two large areas, one for various sports and the other for table top activities and small world adventures. We also have a breakout room where the children can read books in our library corner, watch a movie or dare we mention it… homework! When the weather is good we try to utilise our outdoor area.

We have various modes of transport to aid drop offs and pickups to and from the schools which include a 17 Seater and a 12 seater minibus. As well as “walking bus” to and from Touch School due to the adjacent proximity. In nicer weather, other schools enjoy walking to the club instead of using the minibuses.

We provide an option of cereals, toast and a selection of fruit for breakfast. Our snack menu is made up of suggestions taken from the children’s care plans. During the Holidays the club still provides breakfast & pm snack, however, the children are required to bring a packed lunch from home and a water bottle.

We are open for the majority of school holidays and in-service days, however we are closed at the Christmas break. We have an exciting and varied itinerary which includes trips and outings to many local, and some further afield,  such as local parks, soft play areas, cinema, Edinburgh museum, bowling and Kelpies. Our bake sale fundraising throughout the year pays for admissions for these trips. The children attend these at no extra cost. We are open to any new trip suggestions from parents.

Our staff are fully trained in “playworker” requirements and interact with the children at all levels. The staffing ratios are in line with the guidelines and we are fully inspected by the Care Inspectorate.

  • Graham Reid

Hi, I’m Graham, Gails husband and joined the club full time in 2014.

I gave up my previous job in Edinburgh to concentrate fully on our family business, as it has become even more popular.

I enjoy the fun and “bustle” of the club and seeing the enjoyment of the children each day, as well as the “behind the scenes” paperwork and other business necessities.

Gail’s passion for the business has certainly rubbed off on me and i thoroughly enjoy working at Garvock.

I first joined the Garvock team a few years ago but left for a career break where I travelled and worked in Australia & New Zealand for a little over 2 years. In this time I gained a lot of life experience while exploring and learning about different places.

3 years later and I’m back on the purple side again and couldn’t be happier. I am passionate about working with children and thoroughly enjoy every area of my job. I’m self motivated and enthusiastic in my role and love interacting with all the children through lots of different play. #siancan

  • Alix Moodie
    Alix Moodie Playworker

Hi my name is Alix, I am a  playworker here at Garvock Out of School Club, I joined the team in July 2019. Before I joined the purple side I worked as a private nanny for 3 years. In this time I formed an unbreakable bond with the children in my care, so when this journey came to an end I knew childcare is where I feel most at home.

In my spare time I play football for my St Johnstone WFC, and I enjoy participating in other sports. I have a coaching background, so I love being able to allow the children to have fun through sport while learning essential skills and techniques for different sports along the way. I also enjoy art & crafts activities that encourage the children’s creative personalities.

I am trained in emergency first aid, sports first aid and child protection. I am currently working towards gaining my Level 3 qualification in Social Services (Children and Young People).

After around 15 months I can proudly say I have recently qualified and have completed the level 3 modern apprenticeship in children and young people SCQF level 7. I am also trained in first aid and child protection.

From leaving high school I always knew that I had wanted to work with children and was passionate about finding a fun and lively environment to work in and from my experience of being a staff member at Garvock it proves it is the right choice for me. I love getting to know the children individually and discovering all their unique personalities.

In my spare time I enjoy meeting up with my friends, spending time with my family and going out, sometimes you may not recognise me on a Friday when I have my make-up and hair done! I would describe myself as kind, patient and approachable and I love working here at Garvock OSC.
